Yakushima, a water island, is said to have "35 days of rain in a month.
Yakushima has 140 clear rivers that benefit from the rain, and there are numerous waterfalls in the mountains.

This powerful waterfall is located in the southwestern part of Yakushima and boasts of being the largest on Yakushima.It boasts the highest drop of 88 meters in Kyushu and is selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan.
It flows down through the bedrock of Hornfels, which was formed by thermal metamorphism of sedimentary rocks.
Near the waterfall is the Ohkawa Spring, which has been selected as one of the 100 best waters in Japan.

The panoramic view of the waterfall cascading down a huge 250m x 300m V-shaped granite valley on the eastern slope of Mt. Mocchomu-dake in southeastern Yakushima is magnificent and beautiful.
The name is derived from the analogy that the size of the bedrock is as large as a thousand hectares, or a thousand people joined hands.

Mt.Mocchom-dake in the background and the red bridge over the Tainoko-gawa River. On a clear day, the blue of the water, the green of the forest, and the red of the bridge can be clearly seen, and it is so beautiful that you may want to send a picture postcard of the view.
Looking out from the observatory to the other side of the waterfall, you can also see a view of the Pacific Ocean stretching out.
